Central Bridge Fish & Game Club
Central Bridge, NY
History
The first documented records of the Club date to 1929. The President at that time was Walter Becker, the Treasurer was Elon VanDerwerken and it is unknown who held the office of Secretary. At that time there were 114 members yearly membership dues of 75 cents. Some of the more active members at that time were Wallace Sidney, Ed Teal, Harold Johnson, Everett Johnson, Joe Provost, Harold Provost, Jake Markle, Cy Martell, J. O'Niel, Pete Enders, Orin Taber and Fred Teeple.

The first meetings were held at the IOOF Hall in Central Bridge until the Club's own building was erected in 1938 at its present location on Creek Road in the town of Esperance. It was at that time that the Club became incorporated. Prior to 1938, there was a rifle range located on Cripplebush Road that was used to shoot both rifle and trap.
Central Bridge Fish & Game Club Building
The Club was always very active. There was an annual rabbit and chicken dinner held every February until 1977, as well as clam bakes in the summer months. The Korn, Koon, and Kebitzer Club and the Schoharie Valley Grange also held their meetings at the club house. Many individuals also rented the building for special occasions.

In 1952 a pistol range was built and pistol shoots were held. In the early 1960s the Schoharie County Pistol League was formed, with competitions being held on Wednesdays from September to March. Trap and skeet shoots were also held from early Spring to late Fall on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings.
The Club's Range
Since 1965 the Club has sent one or two young people to Conservation Camp for one week in the Summer, and in the past has sponsored a Hunter Safety Course and plans to do so again in the future.
The Club is supported by membership dues, trap and skeet fees, and the Schoharie County Pistol League, which sponsors two teams (Central Bridge and Schoharie).
